ياO مَعشَرَcompany of العُشّاقِthe lovers ماwhat البُشرىthe glad tidings
قَدindeed ظَفِرَتhas won كَفّيmy hand بِمَنwith the one whom أَهوىI love
O company of lovers, what are the glad tidings?
O company of lovers, what good news!
O assembly of lovers, what joyous tidings!
My hand has won the one I love.
My hands have grasped whom I desire.
My hand has won the one I desire.
واصَلَنيhe granted me union مِنfrom بَعدِكُمafter you (plural) سَيِّديmy lord
كَذاكَlikewise أَيضاًalso لَكُمُfor you (plural) العُقبىthe outcome
My lord granted me union after you.
After being parted from you, my master
My master has granted me union after you,
May such an outcome be yours as well.
Has come back to me; your turn will also come.
And likewise, may the outcome be yours.
ضَمَمتُI clasped كَفَّيَّmy two hands عَلىaround دُرَّةٍa pearl
لاno شِركَةٌsharing فيهاin it وَلاand no دَعوىclaim
I clasped my two hands around a pearl,
I clasped in my hands a precious pearl
I have clasped my palms upon a pearl,
In which there is neither sharing nor any claim.
In which none have a share or any claim.
In which there is no partnership nor claim.
لَمّاwhen تَمَلَأتُI became filled سُروراًwith joy بِهاover it
أَغرَبتُI banished عَنّيfrom me سائِرَthe rest of الدُنياthe world
When I was filled with joy over it,
When I became filled with joy through it,
When I became wholly filled with joy in her,
I banished the rest of the world from me.
I became estranged from all else in the world.
I banished from myself the rest of the world.
