يا عامُ لا تبرح من القفصِ

يا عامُ لا تبرح من القفصِ

نشربُها صفراءَ كالحُصِّ

نشربُها صفراءَ كالحُصِّ

O ʿĀm, do not leave al-Qafṣ.

O friend, do not stray from the cage,

We drink it, yellow as saffron.

We drink it down, yellow as saffron,

تسرقُ هذا اليوم من صومِنا

تسرقُ هذا اليوم من صومِنا

فاللَهِ قد يعفو عن اللص

فاللَهِ قد يعفو عن اللص

It steals this day from our fasting,

You steal this day from our holy fast,

for God may pardon the thief.

And God may yet forgive the thief.
