خَليلَيَّmy two close friends بِاللَهِby God لاdo not تَحفِراyou two dig
لِيَfor me القَبرَthe grave إِلّاexcept بِقُطرُبُّلِin Qutrubbul
My two friends, by God, do not dig
O my two friends, by God, do not dig
A grave for me anywhere but in Qutrubbul,
My grave anywhere but in Qutrubbul,
خِلالَamid المَعاصِرِthe winepresses بَينَamong الكُرومِthe vineyards
وَلاand do not تُدنِيانيyou two bring me near مِنَto السُنبُلِthe ears of grain
Amid the winepresses, among the vineyards;
Amidst the wine-presses, between the vines,
And do not bring me near the ears of grain.
And do not lay me near the stalks of grain,
لَعَلِّيَperhaps I أَسمَعُhear فيin حُفرَتيmy grave
إِذاwhen عُصِرَتare pressed ضَجَّةَthe clamor الأَرجُلِthe feet
Perhaps I shall hear, in my grave,
That I might hear, within my pit,
When grapes are pressed, the clamor of feet.
The clamor of feet when the grapes are pressed.
