جَسَديmy body قائِمٌstanding وَروحيand my soul مُواتُlifeless
جَسَدي قائِمٌ وَروحي مُواتُ
وَسُهاديand my sleeplessness مَعاًtogether وَنَوميand my sleep سُباتُtorpor
وَسُهادي مَعاً وَنَومي سُباتُ
My body stands, and my soul is lifeless.
My body is awake but my soul is dead
My body stands upright, yet my soul is dead,
And my sleeplessness and my sleep alike are torpor.
My pillows together but my sleep is lead
My sleeplessness stays close; my sleep is a deep trance,
وَثِيابيand my clothes تَجُرُّdrag مِنّيfrom me عِظاماًbones
وَثِيابي تَجُرُّ مِنّي عِظاماً
لاno سُكونٌstillness لَهاfor them وَلاand no حَرَكاتُmovements
لا سُكونٌ لَها وَلا حَرَكاتُ
And my clothes drag along bones of mine.
My clothes drag bones from me instead
My garments drag along a frame of bones,
They have neither stillness nor movement.
No stillness or motion can comfort their dread
That possesses neither stillness nor true motion.
