فَدَيتُكِmay I be your ransom فيمَwhy عَتبُكِreproaching you مِنfor كَلامٍwords

May I be your ransom! Why reproach you for words
I sacrifice myself for you, why do you blame me
May I be your ransom; why this harsh reproach,
You spoke in a gracious manner?
For words I spoke with a beautiful face?
Pronounced by you, upon a face so fair?
وَقَولُكِand your saying لِلرَسولِto the messenger عَلَيكَyou should seek غَيريsomeone other than me
فَلَيسَso there is no إِلىto التَواصُلِunion مِنany سَبيلِway
And your words to the messenger: 'Seek someone other than me'—
And your saying to the messenger "I have none but you"
And your telling the messenger: "Seek another,
So there is no path to union.
So there is no way to communicate.
For there is no path to union left for us."
فَقَدfor indeed جاءَcame الرَسولُthe messenger لَهُhe had اِنكِسارٌdejection
وَحالٌand a state ماnot عَلَيهاupon it مِنany قَبولِpleasantness
For the messenger came, dejected,
The messenger came broken
The messenger has returned, dispirited and broken,
And in a state with nothing pleasing about it.
In a state that cannot be accepted.
In a wretched state that offers no relief.
وَلَوand if رَدَّتshe had replied جِنانُJinan مَرَدَّa reply خَيرٍkindness
تَبَيَّنَwould have become apparent ذاكَthat فيin وَجهِthe face of الرَسولِthe messenger
And had Jinan given a kind reply,
If the soul of the good rejectionist returned
Had Jinan but sent back a kind reply,
That would have shown on the messenger's face.
That would show on the face of the messenger.
It would have surely shown upon the messenger's face.
