فَدَيتُكِmay I be your ransom لَيسَthere is no ليfor me عَنكِfrom you اِنصِرافُturning away
وَلاand no لِيَfor me فيin الهَوىlove مِنكِfrom you اِنتِصافُfair treatment
May I be your ransom; I cannot turn away from you.
I ransom you, I have no turning away from you,
May I be your ransom; from you I have no will to turn,
Nor do I find fair treatment from you in love.
Nor in passion any disengagement from you.
Nor in this love can I obtain from you a just return.
وِصالُكِunion with you عِندِيَto me الشَهدُhoney المُصَفّىpurified
وَهَجرُكِand your forsaking عِندِيَto me السُمُّpoison الزُعافُdeadly
Union with you is purified honey to me,
Your union is to me the refined honey,
Union with you is, to my taste, the honey pure and sweet,
And your forsaking me is deadly poison to me.
Your separation is to me bitter aloe.
While your estrangement is a poison, deadly and complete.
وَقائِلَةٍand a woman asking مَتىwhen عَنهاfrom her تَسَلّىwill you find consolation
فَقُلتُso I said لَهاto her إِذاwhen شابَgrows gray الغُدافُthe raven
And a woman asked, 'When will you get over her?'
A questioner asked when I would be consoled of her,
And when she asked, 'When will his heart be comforted of her?'
I replied to her, 'When the raven grows gray.'
I said to her, "When the morning becomes hoary."
I answered her, 'When the raven’s feathers turn as white as fur.'
أَطوفُI circle بِقَصرِكُمaround your palace فيon كُلِّevery يَومٍday
كَأَنَّas though لِقَصرِكُمfor your palace خُلِقَwas created الطَوافُcircling
I circle your palace every day,
I circle your abode each day,
I circle round your palace walls with every passing day,
As though circling were created for your palace.
As if your abode was made for circling.
As if the holy Rite of Circling were ordained for your way.

فَفيfor in بَيتيmy home لِيَfor me الراحُwine السُلافُthe choicest wine
And were it not for love of you, I would surely stay at home,
And were it not for love of you I'd have kept to my home,
Were it not for your love, I would have stayed within my door,
For at home I have the choicest wine.
For in my home is restful comfort for me.
For in my home awaits the choicest, purest wine in store.
أَناI العَبدُthe slave المُقِرُّwho acknowledges بِطولِto the length of رِقٍّbondage
وَلَيسَand there is no عَلَيكِagainst you مِنfrom عَبدٍa slave خِلافُdefiance
I am the slave who acknowledges his long bondage,
I am the slave who acknowledges the length of bondage,
I am the slave who testifies his servitude is true,
And no slave offers you defiance.
And from a slave there is no opposition to you.
And never from a slave comes opposition against you.
