Maknun, my lady, be generous to a sorrowful man,

Love-stricken, bound to a companion in love.

She said, “You have gone mad, in my opinion.” So I said to her:

“Love is more severe than what afflicts the mad.

Love’s sufferer never regains his senses,

Whereas the madman is struck down only now and then.”
