أَحَقّاًis it truly so? مِنكَfrom you أَنَّكَthat you لَنwill never تَرانيsee me
عَلىunder حالٍany circumstance وَأَنّيand that I لَنwill never أَراكاsee you
Is it truly so with you—that you will never see me
Is it true that you will never see me again
Is it truly real that you shall never look on me,
Under any circumstances, and that I shall never see you,
While I will never see you?
In any state, and I shall never look on you?
وَأَنَّكَand that you غائِبٌabsent فيin قَعرِthe depths of لَحدٍa grave
وَماand what قَدindeed كُنتَyou were تَعلوهُrising above it عَلاكاhas risen above you
And that you are gone, in the depths of a grave,
That you are absent in the depth of a grave
That you are absent, lost within the grave's abyss,
And what you once stood above has risen above you?
And never again will I see your stature?
And earth, which you once rose above, has risen over you?
فَلاso may ... not ضَحِكَتI laugh وَقَدwhile already غُيِّبتَyou have been hidden عَنّيfrom me
وَلاnor may رَقَأَتcease مَدامِعُtears مَنwhoever سَلاكاhas forgotten you
Then may I never laugh, now that you have been hidden from me,
So I did not laugh when you were taken from me
May laughter cease, now you are hidden from my sight,
Nor may the tears of whoever forgets you ever cease.
Nor did the tears of those who bid you farewell flow
And never dry the tears of him who would forget your loss.
