إِنَّindeed الَّتيthe woman whom أَبصَرتَهاyou saw her
سَحَراًbefore dawn تُكَلِّمُنيshe speaks to me رَسولُa messenger
Indeed, the woman whom you saw
She whom you saw
Indeed, the one whom you beheld,
speaking to me before dawn is a messenger.
At dawn speaking to me is a messenger
Speaking to me at dawn, is but a messenger;
لَيسَتshe is not هِيَshe القَصدُthe intended object الَّذيthat

She is not the object that
Not the one I yearn for
She is not the aim towards which
one points toward, nor the path.
Nor the way
I gesture, nor is she the path.
أَدَّتshe conveyed إِلَيَّto me رِسالَةًa message
كادَتnearly لَهاbecause of it نَفسيmy soul تَسيلُflows
She brought me a message
She brought me a message
She delivered unto me a message,
that nearly made my soul melt away,
That almost made my soul pour out
For which my soul nearly flowed out,

from one with bewitching eyes, whose
From the sorcerer of eyes, his waist
From a charmer of eyes, whose heavy

Girded with a heavy quiver

Wearing the bow of youth,
Wearing the bow of youth
Armed with the bow of youth, she shoots,
he shoots, and has no equal.
Shooting, though without arrows
And strikes her mark without a peer.
فَلَوَso if اِنَّthat أُذنَكَyour ear بَينَناbetween us
حَتّىso that تَسَمَّعُyou listen closely ماwhat نَقولُwe say
So if your ear were between us,
If only your ear were between us
And were your ear but shared between us,
to listen to what we say,
To hear what we say
To listen to the words we spoke,
لَرَأَيتَyou would see ماwhat اِستَقبَحتَهُyou deemed it ugly
مِنin أَمرِناour affair وَهُوَand it is الجَميلُbeautiful
you would see that what you deemed ugly
You'd see what you disapproved of
You would have seen that what you scorned
in our affair is beautiful,
In our affair is beautiful
In our affair, is truly beautiful,
وَعَلِمتَand you would know أَنّيthat I فيin نَعيfirst part of نَعيمٍ: bliss
مٍremainder of نَعيمٍ: bliss لاdoes not يَحولُchange وَلاand does not يَزولُfade away
and you would know that I am in bliss
And know that I lament
And known that I abide in bliss
that neither changes nor fades away.
A death that does not change or pass
That neither changes nor departs.
