لَقَدindeed أَصبَحتُI have become ذاpossessed of كَرَبٍdistress
مِنَbecause of المولَعِthe one obsessed بِالعَتبِwith reproach
Indeed, I have become distressed
I have indeed become full of distress
I have become a soul in deep distress,
because of the one obsessed with reproach.
From passion for reproach,
Because of one who loves to cast reproach.
وَقَدand indeed قاسَيتُI have endured مِنfrom حُبَّيـmy love for
ـهِhim أَمراًan ordeal لَيسَis not بِاللَعبِmere play
And I have endured, through my love for
And I have experienced from my love of him
And I have suffered in my love for him
him, an ordeal that is no mere play.
A matter not of play.
A burden that is surely not a game.
جَفانيhe shunned me وَتَناسانيand pretended to forget me
بُعَيدَshortly after الرُسلِthe messengers وَالكُتُبِand the letters
He shunned me and pretended to forget me
He was unkind to me and forgot me
He shunned me and feigned forgetfulness,
shortly after the messengers and letters.
After messengers and letters,
Just after the messengers and notes.
وَمَنand whoever غابَhas become absent عَنِfrom العَينِthe eye
فَقَدthen indeed غابَhas become absent عَنِfrom القَلبِthe heart
And whoever is absent from the eye
And he who is absent from the eye
For he who is absent from the eye,
is indeed absent from the heart.
Is absent from the heart.
Is truly absent from the heart.
