    I see myself alive among the living, though most of me

    has died over time, cut down by time.

    فَبَعضي لِبَعضي دونَ قَبرِ البِلى قَبرُ

    So what has not died of me bears what has died;

    thus one part of me is a grave for another, before the grave of decay.

    So, O Lord, You have indeed shown kindness, again and from the outset,

    to me; yet gratitude has not done justice to Your kindness.

    If anyone has an excuse and a plea before You,

    then my excuse is my admission that I have no excuse.
