إِنّيindeed I لَصَبٌّtruly lovesick وَلاand not أَقولُI say بِمَنfor whom
أَخافُI fear مَنone who لاnot يَخافُhe fears مِنof أَحَدِanyone
I am indeed lovesick, but I do not say for whom.
I am infatuated, yet I do not say with whom
I am indeed lovestruck, yet I dare not say for whom,
I fear one who fears no one.
I fear the one who fears no one
For I dread one who dreads no living soul.
إِذاwhen تَفَكَّرتُI pondered فيabout هَوايَmy love لَهُfor him
مَسَستُI touched رَأسيmy head هَلwhether طارَit flew عَنaway from جَسَديmy body
When I ponder my love for him,
When I contemplate my passion for them
When I reflect upon my passion for him,
I touch my head: has it flown from my body?
I touch my head - has it flown off my body?
I touch my head to see if it has flown from my body.
إِنّيindeed I عَلىdespite ماwhat ذَكَرتُI mentioned مِنof فَرَقٍfear
لاnot آمُلُI hope أَنto أَنالَهُI reach him بِيَديwith my hand
Indeed, despite the fear I have described, I
Given this separation I mentioned
And I, despite the terror I have voiced,
have no hope of reaching him with my hand.
I have no hope of attaining them with my hand
Bear no hope that I shall ever reach him with my hand.
