سَقانيhe gave me drink مِنfrom يَدَيهِhis two hands وَمُقلَتَيهِand his two eyes
مِنَof الراحِwine المُعَتَّقِaged شَربَتَينِtwo draughts
He gave me drink from his hands and his eyes:
He made me drink from his hands and eyes
He gave me drink from his hands and from his eyes,
Two draughts of aged wine.
Two draughts from matured wine
Two draughts taken from the vintage wine;
فَبِتُّso I spent the night مُرَنَّحاًreeling مِنfrom شَربَتَيهِhis two draughts
ضَريعاًprostrate قَدalready مُنيتُI was afflicted بِكَربَتَينِwith two torments
So I spent the night reeling from his two draughts,
So I spent the night moaning from his drinks
So I spent the night reeling from his dual potion,
Prostrate, afflicted with two torments.
Yearning, having been tested with two sorrows
Humbled, and bound by a double distress.
هِلالٌa crescent moon مُشرِقٌradiant بَدرٌa full moon لِتِسعٍof nine years

A radiant crescent, a full moon of nine years,
A crescent moon is shining, a full moon is for nine
A shining crescent, a moon of nine nights,
And a third year gone by after two more.
And two have passed after two
With a third gone by, following on two,
يُديرُhe passes round مِنَof المُدامَةِwine بِنتَa daughter سَبعٍseven

He passes round wine, a daughter of seven years,
He turns from the winebearer, daughter of seven
He pours out a spirit, the daughter of seven,
And one more year gone by after two.
And one passed after two
And one more year, that passed after two.
أَقولُI say لَهُto him وَقَدand already طَرَدَتit has driven away كَراناour drowsiness
أَدِرهاpass it round وَاِسقِناand give us drink بِالراحَتَينِwith both palms
I say to him, now that it has banished our drowsiness:
I say to him, though he dismissed the wine-pourers
I said to him, as our slumber was chased away:
Pass it round, and give us drink with both palms.
Make it return and give us the two comforts
"Pass it round, and give us drink from your two palms."
