Give me a drink, O son of Adham,
Quench my thirst, O son of dusty complexion
Pour for me, O son of Adham,
and take me as your son.
And take me as a son to you
And take me as a son of yours.

سَبَقَت خَلقَ آدَما
Pour it for me, that choice wine
Give me to drink it pure
Pour me the vintage, pure and old,
that preceded Adam's creation.
Born before Adam's creation
That came before the birth of Adam.

ما خَلا الأَرضَ وَالسَما
For it existed, and nothing else did,
It existed while naught did but
For it existed when nothing was,
except the earth and sky.
The earth and the heavens above
Save for the earth and the sky above.

وَكَبيراً مُهَرَّما
It saw Time in his youth,
It saw time grow from infancy
It witnessed Time as a rising youth,
and grown old, decrepit with age.
To tottering old age worn
And as an elder, worn by age.

For it is a purified spirit
It's a free spirit parted
It is a spirit, refined and free,
that has parted from flesh and blood.
From flesh and blood
That has parted from flesh and blood.

not about describing a deserted camp's remains,
No words of blame or rebuke
Not describing the traces of ruins,
no, nor divining from an ill-omened bird.
Shall describe it, not at all
Nor scaring away the bird of doom.
