ولا تسلّم على خيفٍ ولا قُلَلِ
Do not weep over a dwelling's traces, nor shed tears over ruins.
Do not weep for ruins or shed tears on the hillocks,
Weep not for vanished traces, nor shed tears upon the ruins,
Nor greet a mountain slope or mountain peaks.
Do not bid farewell to lowlands or the hills.
And send no greeting to the valley of Khayf, nor to the peaks,
ومتّعِand give pleasure to النفسَthe soul ممّاfrom what سوفwill تفقدهُyou lose it
ومتّعِ النفسَ ممّا سوف تفقدهُ

عمّا قليلٍ وبادر وثبةَ الأجَلِ
And let your soul enjoy what you will lose
Delight yourself with what you will soon lose,
But grant the soul its pleasure in what it soon must lose,
Before long, and make haste before death's leap.
In a little while, hasten, the hour is at hand.
All too soon—so hasten before the leap of fate.
