فَقالَ في غُنجٍ وَإِخناثِ
And may my father be ransom for a lisper I argued with!
I complained to my father about my lisping,
May my father be ransom for a lisping lad whom I teased,
He said, with coquetry and effeminacy,
So he said angrily and harshly:
Who replied with coquetry and languid softness,
لَمّاwhen رَأىhe saw مِنّيfrom me خِلافيmy opposition لَهُto him
لَمّا رَأى مِنّي خِلافي لَهُ

When he saw that I opposed him:
When he saw my disobedience to him,
When he saw my contrariness toward him:
“How much people have suffered at people's hands!”
"How often the femaler meets the male!"
"How much have thoulth thuffered becauth of thoulth!"

I contended with him over tawny wine from Karkh,
I disputed him violently
I shared with him a golden wine from Karkh,
Already milked from a farmer's vineyard.
Like a guttural letter at the start of speech.
That had been milked from the vines of a tiller,

Our pitcher stood upright at one moment,
Our waterskin standing erect at times
Our pitcher standing erect at one moment,
And at another, knelt down, crouching.
And at others lying flat and slack.
And at another, bending down to kneel.
