Al-Khadra, the Green One, grew young again after her hair had grayed;
The verdant one has donned youth after its old age
The verdant realm has turned young again after old age,
and only through al-Amin did she grow young again.
And it did so through you, O trusted one
And it is only through Al-Amin that it finds its youth.
رَدَدتَyou restored عَلَيهاto her ماwhat مَضىhad passed مِنof شَبابِهاher youth
وَجَدَّدتَand you renewed مِنهاof her مَنظَراًan appearance كادَnearly يَخرَبُfell into ruin
You restored to her the youth that had passed,
You have restored its bygone youth
You have restored to it the prime that had passed away,
and renewed her appearance, which had nearly fallen into ruin.
And renewed a sight of it that was about to perish
And renewed a visage that was on the verge of ruin.
لَئِنeven if كانَthere are مِنof هارونَHarun فيكَin you مَشابَهٌresemblances
لَأَنتَyou indeed إِلىto المَنصورِal-Mansur بِالشَبهِin likeness أَقرَبُcloser
Even if you bear some resemblance to Harun,
If you resemble Harun in some ways
If indeed you bear a resemblance to Harun,
you are surely closer in likeness to al-Mansur.
You are closer in resemblance to al-Mansur
You are yet closer in likeness to Al-Mansur.
لِأَنَّكَbecause you إِنif جَدّاكَyour two grandfathers عُدّاare counted فَإِنَّماthen only
تَصيرُyou go back رِلىto (apparently a typo for إِلى) المَنصورِal-Mansur مِنfrom حَيثُwhere تُنسَبُyour descent is traced
For if your two grandfathers are counted, it is only
For if your ancestors are counted
For if your forefathers were to be reckoned,
to al-Mansur that you trace your lineage.
You become a kinsman of al-Mansur from that lineage
You would ascend to Al-Mansur by lineage.
نَراكَwe see you ابنَهُhis son مِنfrom جانِبَيهِhis two sides كِلَيهِماboth of them
فَمِنfor on جانِبٍone side جَدٌّa grandfather وَمِنand on جانِبٍone side أَبُa father
We see you as his son through both branches of his line;
We see you as his son, from both his sides
We see you as his heir from both of his sides:
for on one side he is a grandfather, and on the other a father.
So from one side, a grandfather, and from the other, a father
From one side a grandsire, from the other a sire.

An imam who inspires awe and love—
A leader who commands awe and love
An Imam crowned with majesty and graced with love;
behold, how splendid is that awe-inspiring, beloved one!
How excellent is that imposing, beloved one
How splendid is that revered and beloved one!
