فهي سَوامٍ كالقنا المسنّد

Exhaustion has tethered them, though they were not tethered.

So they are grazing beasts, like propped-up spears.

ومالها معلل من مِزود

ومالها معلل من مِزود

منها ولا من شاحطٍ مستبعد

منها ولا من شاحطٍ مستبعد

They have nothing to sustain them from a provision-bag,

Either one of their own or one remote and far away.
