Your name, “the Master,” shone forth in the might of its perfection,

And inspired me to know my imperfection and the lowliness of my servitude.

And inspired me to knock at the door, seeking refuge

In the glorious patronage of lordly might.

And inspired me to set my face, humbled,

Toward Your Face, my Lord, in my hope and my fear.

To You, whose help is sought, came surging

My hopes, arriving early, and my abject need.

Nor, my Master, has a devotee [uncertain reading] relied on nearness

To You; rather, my Master's bounty is my nearness.

You suffice as a Master, merciful to me, directing

My affairs, choosing what is best for me.

You have cared for me since the creation of my nature,

Through the grace of bringing me into being and preserving my blessings.

You have directed me as You willed, my Master, as I follow

Your workings, while You bestow my God-given power.

And the attribution of what mutual relation projects is a form

By which I am known; it was not fashioned through causal efficacy.

And negation and affirmation have no bearing for me therein,

Save an effect that goes no further than my nature's poverty.

Terrors, my Master, have contended for my side,

And in Your hand, O God, lies the key to my relief.
