You hold back, if You hold back, from the near reaches of favor—
If You hold someone back, You keep them from nearness to Your pleasure,
by ancient knowledge and the dictate of a Will.
Because of eternal knowledge and the demands of Your will.

And in the wisdom of delay lies the might of One who subdues,
a Lord’s governance, and the impossibility of any partnership.

So no stratagem can secure its advancement.

If You do not will its advancement by even a step?

that renders all powers incapable of any resource or strength.
That strips the powers of all might and strength.

By the right of Your supreme Name, “The Delayer,” restrain me
By virtue of Your most exalted Name, the Delayer, restrain me
through it from my headlong rebellion—from a passion wherein lies my misery.
Through it, from my unruliness, from desire wherein lies my misery.

And turn my enemies back from the objects of their desire,
And turn my enemies away from the ends they seek,
for they harbor an evil that has encompassed my solitude.
For theirs is an evil that has hemmed in my solitude.
