تأنيت حلماً يا صبور وإنما

تأنيت حلماً يا صبور وإنما

إلى أجْلِ تأخير عدل العقوبة

You have waited in forbearance, O Most Patient; it is only

You delayed out of forbearance, O Most Patient; and only

until an appointed term, deferring just punishment.

تأنيت في أخذ العصاة تلطفاً

ورفقاً ولم تأخذ عصياً بعجلة

ورفقاً ولم تأخذ عصياً بعجلة

You have delayed seizing the disobedient, out of graciousness

You delayed seizing the disobedient out of tenderness,

and gentleness, and have not seized a rebel in haste.

وبوأتهم فوق التأني مبوءاً

وبوأتهم فوق التأني مبوءاً

من الخير في الدنيا برغم الخطيئة

Beyond mere forbearance, You have settled them in an abode

And beyond delaying, You settled them in an abode

of goodness in this world, despite their sin—

of goodness in this world, despite their sin.

كأن خطاياهم وسائل للرضا

كأن خطاياهم وسائل للرضا

تعاليت هذا غاية الكرمية

تعاليت هذا غاية الكرمية

as though their sins were means of attaining favor.

As though their sins were means to Your favor—

Exalted are You! This is generosity at its utmost.

exalted are You! This is the height of generosity.

وأنت ترى أسرارهم وجهارهم

وأنت ترى أسرارهم وجهارهم

بعصيانك اللهم من دون خشية

بعصيانك اللهم من دون خشية

Though You see their secret and open acts

And You see their hidden deeds and their open ones,

of disobedience to You, O God, committed without fear.

تعاليت هذا الصبر صبر اناءة

تعاليت هذا الصبر صبر اناءة

يليق بشأن الرتبة الصمدية

Exalted are You! This patience is the patience of deliberation,

Exalted are You; this patience is the patience of unhurried deliberation,

befitting the station of divine absoluteness and self-sufficiency.

Exalted are You! No rushing haste has impelled You

Exalted are You; the haste of one who rushes has not driven You

to act before the appointed time.

Rather, the affair—its measures known—has already proceeded

along fixed courses ordained by the Will.

فتأخير ما أخرت حلم مؤجل

فتأخير ما أخرت حلم مؤجل

وتقديم ما قدمت ليس بعجلة

Thus, Your deferring what You defer is forbearance prolonged,

So delaying what You delayed is forbearance with a set term,

and Your advancing what You advance is not from haste,

and advancing what You advanced is not haste,

لتودع ما تقضي به في أوانه

لتودع ما تقضي به في أوانه

على ما تراه ينبغي للقضية

على ما تراه ينبغي للقضية

so that You consign what You decree to its proper time,

to place what You decree in its proper time,

in accordance with what You deem fitting for the decree,

as You deem fitting for the matter,

بغير مقاساة لداع مضادد

بغير مقاساة لداع مضادد

إرادتك العظمى ولا بمشقة

إرادتك العظمى ولا بمشقة

without struggling against any impulse opposed to

without contending with any impulse opposing

Your supreme will, and without hardship.
