احطتَ بخَطبي يا محيط وما انطوى

عليه عدائي من حبائل هلكتي

عليه عدائي من حبائل هلكتي

You have encompassed my plight, O All-Encompassing One, and what

You have encompassed my affairs, O Ocean, and not

my enemies harbor of snares for my destruction.

The coils of my enemies that led to my ruin.

أحاطت بضعفي يا محيط شدائد

أحاطت بضعفي يا محيط شدائد

وهي جلدي منها وجلت رزيئتي

وهي جلدي منها وجلت رزيئتي

Hardships have surrounded my weakness, O All-Encompassing One;

My troubles have encompassed me, O Ocean. They are

my endurance has weakened under them, and my affliction has grown great.

My skin, though I detest my wretched state.

وما عرض حالي يا محيط يزيد في

وما عرض حالي يا محيط يزيد في

إحاطة علم اللّه مثقال ذرة

إحاطة علم اللّه مثقال ذرة

Nor does recounting my state, O All-Encompassing One, add to

My condition does not, O Ocean, add

God's all-encompassing knowledge even an atom's weight.

An atom's weight to God's all-encompassing knowledge.

ولكن دعائي يا محيط وسيطة

ولكن دعائي يا محيط وسيطة

أمرت بها المضطر عند البلية

أمرت بها المضطر عند البلية

But my supplication, O All-Encompassing One, is a means

But my prayer, O Ocean, is an intercession

You commanded the distressed to use in affliction.

I was commanded to make when afflicted.

وما لي حول يا محيط وإنني

وما لي حول يا محيط وإنني

تبرأت من حولي لديك وقوتي

تبرأت من حولي لديك وقوتي

I have no power, O All-Encompassing One, and indeed I

I have no power, O Ocean. I have disclaimed

have renounced my power and strength before You.

My power before You, my might and my strength.

وحولي عجزي يا محيط وذلتي

وحولي عجزي يا محيط وذلتي

وفقري وسفحي عبرة بعد عبرة

وفقري وسفحي عبرة بعد عبرة

And my power is my helplessness, O All-Encompassing One, and my abasement,

My power is my weakness, O Ocean, my humiliation,

and my poverty and my shedding tear after tear,

My poverty, and my pouring forth tears after tears.

وبثي وحزني يا محيط وكبوتي

وبثي وحزني يا محيط وكبوتي

على حروجهي وارتعاد فريصتي

على حروجهي وارتعاد فريصتي

and my anguish and sorrow, O All-Encompassing One, and my falling

My distress, O Ocean, my gloom and my dejection

flat upon my face, and the trembling of my flank.

Over my burning coals and trembling hunted beast.

أحطني حياتي يا محيط من البلا

أحطني حياتي يا محيط من البلا

ء في الدين والدنيا ومن شؤم زلتي

ء في الدين والدنيا ومن شؤم زلتي

Protect me throughout my life, O All-Encompassing One, from affliction

My life, O Ocean, has encompassed me with woes

in religion and worldly life, and from the ill fortune of my lapse.

In religion and world, and the ill-omen of my stumblings.

ولي نفس سوء يا محيط جهولة

ولي نفس سوء يا محيط جهولة

تجهمني الأخطار غير زكية

تجهمني الأخطار غير زكية

And I have an evil soul, O All-Encompassing One, deeply ignorant;

I have an evil soul, O Ocean, ignorant,

dangers scowl at me; it is unpurified—

Bringing calamities upon me, unpure.

مطية شر يا محيط مقودة

مطية شر يا محيط مقودة

إلى هلكها من جهلها بأزمة

إلى هلكها من جهلها بأزمة

a mount of evil, O All-Encompassing One, led

Ridden by evil, O Ocean, led

by reins to its destruction through its ignorance.

To its ruin by its ignorance of the moment's gravity.

قني شر جهل يا محيط وزكني

قني شر جهل يا محيط وزكني

بأنوار سراسم المحيط الجلية

بأنوار سراسم المحيط الجلية

Protect me from the evil of ignorance, O All-Encompassing One, and purify me

Save me from the evil of ignorance, O Ocean, purify me

with the manifest lights of the secret of the name 'the All-Encompassing One.'

With the lights of the wisdoms of the clear vast Ocean.
