You behold all beings with all-encompassing sight,

without an imprinted image or an eye, O All-Seeing.

You behold what no created being has perceived,

absolutely, by virtue of Your essence, not through an intermediary.

You, the true All-Seeing, see by Your essence, not through what

they claim of the inherence of eternal attributes.

And the truth is only that Your essence perceives,

all-seeing, with no claim to an instrumental 'by'.

You behold my state, its open and hidden sides,

and where my affairs lead, and the neediness of my selfhood,

and how I suffer in every station,

and my heart's darkness and the obliteration of my inner sight.

My God, make me see myself and my worth,

for my utter loss lies in my ignorance of my rank.

My God, for all You have seen of my shortcomings

and my ill choosing, You conceal my want.

And where can I flee or hide, when You, O

All-Seeing, encompass all things and witnessing itself?

My God, one veiled by dense matter is bound fast

with a slipknot of his ignorance and a tether,

    and lies within the All-Merciful's truly penetrating sight;

so my affliction has not escaped You, O Lord.
