إلى الملك الفعال في ملكه لما

إلى الملك الفعال في ملكه لما

يريد تناهى رهب نفسي ورغبتي

يريد تناهى رهب نفسي ورغبتي

To the King, who does within His dominion whatever

To the effective King in His kingdom when

He wills, my soul’s fear and my longing ultimately turn.

My soul's awe and desire of Him transcended limits

هو الفاعل المختار ما شاء كائن

هو الفاعل المختار ما شاء كائن

وما لم يشأ لم يأت ضد المشيئة

وما لم يشأ لم يأت ضد المشيئة

He is the freely choosing agent; whatever He wills comes to be.

He is the Choosing Doer of what He wills being done

And what He does not will never comes to pass against His will.

And what He willed not, cannot come against His will

هو المصدر الأفعال خلقاً أراده

هو المصدر الأفعال خلقاً أراده

وإن صدرت كسباً بفعل الخليقة

وإن صدرت كسباً بفعل الخليقة

He originates actions by an act of creation He has willed,

He is the source of deeds, having created them by His will

Though they issue as acquired acts through the action of creatures.

And if they occurred as acquisition through the act of the creation

يؤثر ما يختار فعلاً مقدساً

يؤثر ما يختار فعلاً مقدساً

عن العبث الفطري والعوجية

عن العبث الفطري والعوجية

He effects whatever He chooses, in action exalted

He chooses what effect He sanctifies

Above innate futility and crookedness.

Above the innate futility and crookedness

وما فعله تأثيره لوجوده

وما فعله تأثيره لوجوده

ولا فعله تأثيره بطبيعة

ولا فعله تأثيره بطبيعة

His action—His causing effects—is not due to His existence,

And His effect is due to His existence

Nor does His action—His causing effects—proceed by nature.

Not His effect by nature

ولا فعله أثر اقتفاء لفاعل

ولا فعله أثر اقتفاء لفاعل

ولا أثر عن شركة أو معونة

ولا أثر عن شركة أو معونة

Nor is His action the result of following another agent,

Nor is His effect in emulation of an agent

Nor an effect arising from partnership or assistance.

Nor effect from partnership or assistance

ولا فعله دفع ونفع لنفسه

ولا فعله دفع ونفع لنفسه

تعالى ولا فعل على غرضية

تعالى ولا فعل على غرضية

Nor does He act to ward off harm or gain benefit for Himself.

Nor did He act to repel or benefit Himself

Exalted is He! Nor does He act for an ulterior end.

Exalted, nor act out of selfishness

تأثرت الأسباب عنه فأثرت

تأثرت الأسباب عنه فأثرت

بحكمته التأثير بالبسببية

بحكمته التأثير بالبسببية

Causes were acted upon by Him, and so exerted

The causes were affected by Him and thus had effect

Their influence, by His wisdom, through causality.

By His wisdom, the causation of cause and effect

وما هذه الأسباب الآت فعله

وما هذه الأسباب الآت فعله

ولكنها مأسورة تحت حكمة

ولكنها مأسورة تحت حكمة

And these causes are not instruments of His action,

And these causes that bring about His action

But they are held captive under wisdom.

Are but constrained under His wisdom

الهي يا فعال أشكو إليك ما

الهي يا فعال أشكو إليك ما

تناوبني من نكبة غب نكبة

تناوبني من نكبة غب نكبة

My God, O mighty Doer, I complain to You of what

My God, O Effecter, I complain to You of what

Has beset me—calamity after calamity.

Has befallen me, of affliction after affliction

الهي فافعل بي الذي أنت أهله

الهي فافعل بي الذي أنت أهله

بحق اسمك الفعال واكشف ملمتي

بحق اسمك الفعال واكشف ملمتي

My God, so deal with me as befits You,

My God, so act toward me as You are worthy

For the sake of Your name, the mighty Doer, and lift my affliction.

In the right of Your Name, the Effecter, and remove my troubles
