The precedence of will is the seeker's ladder.

The will preceded the ladder of the seeker

So seek; perhaps you will outstrip the scouts.

So turn back, perhaps you will precede the pioneers

نادتك ألسنة الحقيقة فالتفت

The tongues of Truth have called you, so turn

The tongues of truth called you, so turn

toward the call and toward that gathering.

Toward the call and toward that summoner

ارحل طليحك للنفير فربما

ارحل طليحك للنفير فربما

سبق الطليح وكل ظهر القادي

سبق الطليح وكل ظهر القادي

Saddle your weary mount for the muster, for perhaps

March your determination to the mustering, perhaps

the weary mount will lead, while the swift one's back grows tired.

The determination preceded and surpassed every riding camel

قد رشحتك لشأنها بشواهد

قد رشحتك لشأنها بشواهد

أبدى كواكبها الجمال البادي

أبدى كواكبها الجمال البادي

Truth has indeed chosen you for its purpose through signs

It has nominated you for its affair with proofs

whose stars manifest Beauty has revealed.

Its everlasting stars displayed obvious beauty

أتراه يدعوك الحبيب لقربه

أتراه يدعوك الحبيب لقربه

فإذا اقتربت رماك بالابعاد

فإذا اقتربت رماك بالابعاد

Do you think the Beloved calls you close to Him,

Do you see it calls you, the Beloved, unto its nearness?

then, when you draw near, casts you far away?

So if you draw near, it casts you into remoteness

لو تهت من نور الجمال بمشهد

لو تهت من نور الجمال بمشهد

لرأيت سر اللطف بالأشهاد

لرأيت سر اللطف بالأشهاد

Were you to lose yourself in Beauty's light in a vision,

If you went astray from the light of beauty in a scene

you would see the secret of grace before the witnesses.

You would see the secret of grace in martyrdoms

نور الجمال على المظاهر لائح

نور الجمال على المظاهر لائح

فالحظه مرتسماً على الايجاد

فالحظه مرتسماً على الايجاد

Beauty's light shines upon the manifestations;

The light of beauty radiates upon manifestations

so behold it traced upon creation.

So observe it depicted upon creations

لولاه لاحترقت بنور جلاله

لولاه لاحترقت بنور جلاله

وجهلت حكمة عالم الأضداد

وجهلت حكمة عالم الأضداد

Were it not for that light, you would burn in the light of His majesty

If not for it, its majesty’s light would have incinerated

and not know the wisdom of the world of opposites.

And you would be ignorant of the wisdom of the world of opposites

ألقاك في دار الفناء لحكمة

ألقاك في دار الفناء لحكمة

خفيت حقائقها عن الأفراد

خفيت حقائقها عن الأفراد

He cast you into the abode of transience for a wise purpose

It cast you into the abode of annihilation for a wisdom

whose realities were hidden from the singular ones.

Whose realities were concealed from individuals

ودعاك أن أقبل إلي ولا تخف

ودعاك أن أقبل إلي ولا تخف

في المدلجين إلي من أجنادي

في المدلجين إلي من أجنادي

And He called you: “Come to Me, and do not fear,

And it called you, “Come to Me and fear not

among those of My hosts who journey to Me by night.

Among those who strive toward Me from My hosts”

أنت الأمين على أمانتنا التي

أنت الأمين على أمانتنا التي

ثقلت على الأفلاك والأطواد

ثقلت على الأفلاك والأطواد

You are the trustee of Our trust, which

You are the trustee of Our trust which

weighed heavily upon the celestial spheres and the mountains.

Burdened the spheres and the mountains

أترى تؤديها بغير اعانتي

أترى تؤديها بغير اعانتي

أو كنت تحملها بغير مرادي

أو كنت تحملها بغير مرادي

Do you think you can discharge it without My help,

Do you think to fulfill it without My help

or could you bear it without My will?

Or were you bearing it without My will?

ألبستك السبع المثاني خلعة

ألبستك السبع المثاني خلعة

في هيكل من عالم الأجساد

في هيكل من عالم الأجساد

I clothed you in the Seven Oft-Repeated as a robe of honor,

I clothed you in the seven pairs robe

in a frame from the world of bodies.

In a temple from the world of bodies

فاخلع كثيفتك التي لا تنبغي

فاخلع كثيفتك التي لا تنبغي

لشهود حضرتنا مع الأشهاد

لشهود حضرتنا مع الأشهاد

So cast off your dense form, which is unfit

So shed your thick clothing which does not befit

to witness Our Presence with the witnesses.

The witnesses of Our presence with the martyrs

واغسل بماء القدس عشر لطائف

واغسل بماء القدس عشر لطائف

هي أنت من دنس الطباع الكادي

هي أنت من دنس الطباع الكادي

And wash with the water of holiness ten subtle faculties—

And wash with the water of holiness the ten subtleties

which are your very self—of the troublesome taint of natural dispositions.

Which are you from the filth of devious dispositions

أشربت خمسة أبحر لتعيش في

أشربت خمسة أبحر لتعيش في

ظمأ فرد فرطا مع الوراد

ظمأ فرد فرطا مع الوراد

You were given five seas to drink, that you might live in

I made you drink five seas that you may live

a singular thirst, a forerunner among those coming to drink.

Thirsting excessively with the water-drawers

فجرتها لك من صفات الذات في

فجرتها لك من صفات الذات في

عين الظهور ومبدأ الآحاد

عين الظهور ومبدأ الآحاد

I made them gush forth for you from the attributes of the Essence, at

So I poured it for you from the attributes of the Essence in

the wellspring of manifestation and the origin of individual beings.”
