O servant, why do you forget the blessings you have received—
O servant, why do you forget what you have been blessed with?
your very creation itself being among God’s gifts?
And your very creation is among God's blessings.

Five times you meet God, seeking reconciliation,
You meet God five times in reconciliation,
each day, yet never cease disobeying Him.
Each day, yet never cease to disobey Him.

Woe to the worshiper without a heart that turns back—for then
Woe to the worshipper without a repentant heart; for
prayer does not restrain him from his worldly concerns.
Prayer does not restrain the worshipper from his worldly concerns.

Between the testimony of faith and the final salutation,
Between the testimony of faith and the closing salutation, he is drawn away

From communion with God by his devil, through his worldly concerns.

حي الضمير فيهديه لتقواه
Many a person who neglects a prescribed duty may be reproached
Yet many a person who neglects an obligation may be rebuked
by a vigilant conscience that guides him toward piety.
By a living conscience, which guides him to reverence for God.

In religion lies the purification of the intellect; religion guards,
And religion, in which the mind is purified, is guarded
for God, the one whose Lord wills him toward goodness.
For God's sake by one whose Lord has destined him for good.

ما لم يكن عاملا في حسن عقباه
What worth has reason in this world, attending a person,
What value has the mind that accompanies him in this world,
unless it labors to secure his good end in the Hereafter?
Unless it works toward a good end for him?
دنياthe world of الغرورdelusion متاعenjoyment سوفwill نفقدهwe lose it

فلاthen no متاعenjoyment ولاnor مالwealth ولاnor جاهprestige
فلا متاع ولا مال ولا جاه
The world of delusion is a fleeting enjoyment we shall lose;
This world of delusion is a pleasure we shall lose;
then no enjoyment, wealth, or prestige remains.
Then no pleasure, no wealth, no prestige will remain.
