الهيَ يا رحمن ضاق بيَ الفضا

الهيَ يا رحمن ضاق بيَ الفضا

وعزني الملجا وذل مقاميا

وعزني الملجا وذل مقاميا

My God, O All-Merciful, the vast expanse has closed in on me;

O my Lord, the Merciful, space has become constricted around me,

And refuge eludes me, and my station is brought low.

And dwelling has weakened me, and my position has become humiliating,

وأنت وسعت الكل علماً ورحمة

وأنت وسعت الكل علماً ورحمة

وربيت بالرحمى الخليقة كافيا

وربيت بالرحمى الخليقة كافيا

And You have encompassed all in knowledge and mercy,

While You have expanded everything with knowledge and mercy,

And nurtured creation with compassion, providing for it.

And nurtured creation with kindness completely,

برحمتك العظمى تمسكت ضارعاً

برحمتك العظمى تمسكت ضارعاً

أغوث ملهوفاً وأهتف عانيا

أغوث ملهوفاً وأهتف عانيا

I have held fast to Your supreme mercy, humbly pleading;

With Your great mercy I held on pleading,

I cry for help in distress and call out as a captive.

Screaming distressed, and crying suffering,

وبي شدة يا أرحم الراحمين ما

وبي شدة يا أرحم الراحمين ما

يقوم لها صبري تصب الدواهيا

يقوم لها صبري تصب الدواهيا

And I face hardship, O Most Merciful of the merciful,

And with me, O Most Merciful of the merciful, is an intensity,

which my patience cannot withstand, as calamities pour down.

That my patience cannot withstand, pouring calamities,

فصب على ضعفي شآبيب رحمة

فصب على ضعفي شآبيب رحمة

فقد غادرت أقوى التجلد واهيا

فقد غادرت أقوى التجلد واهيا

So pour upon my weakness showers of mercy,

So pour upon my weakness trickles of mercy,

For it has left the strongest fortitude feeble.

For I have abandoned the strongest perseverance, weak,

الهي تداركني بحرمتك التي اس

الهي تداركني بحرمتك التي اس

تقامت بها الأكوان بدءاً وتاليا

تقامت بها الأكوان بدءاً وتاليا

My God, come to my aid by Your sanctity, through which

My God, save me through Your sanctity by which,

the worlds stood firm, in the beginning and thereafter.

The universes were established, beginning and consecutive,

أغثني بما نجيت ذا النون بعد إذ

أغثني بما نجيت ذا النون بعد إذ

تعمق في أحشائه البحر ثاويا

تعمق في أحشائه البحر ثاويا

Rescue me by that with which You saved Dhu al-Nun, after

Relieve me with what You saved Thul-Nun after,

he had descended deep into the sea, dwelling in the fish's belly.

The sea plunged deep into his belly raging,

أغشني يا رحمن بالرحمة التي

أغشني يا رحمن بالرحمة التي

رحمت بها أيوب في الضر باليا

رحمت بها أيوب في الضر باليا

Enfold me, O All-Merciful, in the mercy with which

Shelter me, O Most Merciful, with the mercy,

You showed Ayyub mercy as he wasted away in affliction.

With which You had mercy on Job in affliction and trials,

حنانيك يا رحمن عطفاً ورحمة

حنانيك يا رحمن عطفاً ورحمة

فغير خفي عنك سوء مكانيا

فغير خفي عنك سوء مكانيا

Your tender mercies, O All-Merciful—kindness and compassion!

Your tenderness, O Most Merciful, is kindness and mercy,

For my wretched plight is not hidden from You.

For my terrible state is not hidden from You,

بما ترحم الطفل الصغير وترحم ال

بما ترحم الطفل الصغير وترحم ال

بهائم أدرك ذلتي وافتقاريا

بهائم أدرك ذلتي وافتقاريا

By the mercy You show the little child, and the mercy You show the

With what You have mercy on the young child, and have mercy on,

beasts, come to my aid in my abasement and need.

The animals, realize my humiliation and need,

بما ترحم الأملاك في رهبوتها

بما ترحم الأملاك في رهبوتها

وتسبيحها ارحم لهفتي وابتهاليا

وتسبيحها ارحم لهفتي وابتهاليا

By the mercy You show the angels in their awe

With what You have mercy on the angels in their reverence,

and their praise, have mercy on my anguish and my supplication.

And glorification, have mercy on my fervor and my supplication,
