My God, I repent! O Accepter of repentance, I

offer sincere repentance from my innermost heart.

I offer it for the wrongs I have committed,

and You, my God, know the sincerity of my repentance.

And if I have not been sincere in my return, then I have,

through Your enabling grace, O God, the firmest handhold.

I offer my repentance sincerely, yet am not secure

from the soul, should it drive me toward sin.

For many a repentance have I made sincere with deliberation,

and how often the soul has undone it after that deliberation.

Such is the way of one left unaided—I seek Your refuge, my Master—

if You do not come to my aid with steadfastness and protection from sin.

And who can assure me You will be pleased with my faithfulness in repentance

that is sincere, if You do not shield me from the evil of my own choosing?

I now renounce before You what I have committed,

and have surrendered my face, repenting of my offense.

Nor have I feared being cast out disappointed, O Accepter of repentance,

while You know well my supplication and my return.

And after repentance I have hoped only for its acceptance,

nor, after sincerity of purpose, for anything but reward.

And who can grant me repentance that attains Your good pleasure,

unless, for its sake, You strip me of my corporeal nature (reading uncertain)?
