الهي عظيم العفو أوقرت مأثماً

الهي عظيم العفو أوقرت مأثماً

وعفوك يمحو يا عفو جريرتي

وعفوك يمحو يا عفو جريرتي

My God, great in pardon, I am laden with sin.

And your pardon, O Pardoner, erases my transgression.

الهي عملت السوء وانقدت للهوى

الهي عملت السوء وانقدت للهوى

وباعد ما بيني وبينك زلتي

وباعد ما بيني وبينك زلتي

My God, I have done evil and yielded to desire.

And my lapse has widened the distance between me and you.

ولكن إذا قارنت عظم خطيئتي

ولكن إذا قارنت عظم خطيئتي

بعفوك لم تعدل بمثقال ذرة

بعفوك لم تعدل بمثقال ذرة

But when I compare the enormity of my sin

with your pardon, it does not equal the weight of a mote.

ولو أن حشو الكون وزراً حملته

ولو أن حشو الكون وزراً حملته

لكان ببحر العفو أحقر نقطة

لكان ببحر العفو أحقر نقطة

And even if I bore enough sin to fill the universe,

it would be the most insignificant drop in the sea of pardon.

الهي فتحت الباب للعفو فانتهت

الهي فتحت الباب للعفو فانتهت

إليه نهايات العصاة وآبت

إليه نهايات العصاة وآبت

My God, you opened the door to pardon, and so there came

to it the furthest-gone sinners, and they turned back.

لقد ضاق بي من عظم زلاتي الفضا

لقد ضاق بي من عظم زلاتي الفضا

وحقت إذا لم تعف عني شقوتي

وحقت إذا لم تعف عني شقوتي

Indeed, the expanse has grown narrow for me from the enormity of my lapses.

And my misery is certain if you do not pardon me.

وعفوك عني يا عفو كرامة

وعفوك عني يا عفو كرامة

ومن ولا استحقاق لي في الكرامة

ومن ولا استحقاق لي في الكرامة

And your pardon of me, O Pardoner, is an honor

and a favor; I have no claim to that honor.

لئن نلت منك العفو من بعد توبة

لئن نلت منك العفو من بعد توبة

فأنت بفضل منك يسرت توبتي

فأنت بفضل منك يسرت توبتي

If indeed I obtain pardon from you after repentance,

then you, by your grace, have made my repentance easy.

وهب أنني وفيت ما أنت آمر

وهب أنني وفيت ما أنت آمر

به حسب امكاني وغاية قوتي

به حسب امكاني وغاية قوتي

And suppose I fulfilled what you command,

according to my ability and the utmost of my strength:

فذلك امكان به أنت مسعفي

فذلك امكان به أنت مسعفي

وإلا فما أمري وشأني وقدرتي

وإلا فما أمري وشأني وقدرتي

then that is an ability with which you aid me;

otherwise, what are my condition, my standing, and my power?

ففي كل حال يا عفو عناية

ففي كل حال يا عفو عناية

ولطف بهذا العبد في كل خلة

ولطف بهذا العبد في كل خلة

So in every condition, O Pardoner, there is care

and kindness toward this servant in every need.
