الهيmy God عظيمgreat in العفوpardon أوقرتI am laden مأثماًwith sin
وعفوكand Your pardon يمحوerases ياO عفوPardoner جريرتيmy offense
My God, great in pardon, I am laden with sin.
O my God, Most Forgiving, You have honored a sinner
And Your pardon, O Pardoner, erases my offense.
And Your forgiveness erases, O Forgiver, my misdeeds
الهيmy God عملتI committed السوءevil وانقدتand I yielded للهوىto desire
وباعدand has widened ماwhat lies بينيbetween me وبينكand between You زلتيmy lapse
My God, I have done evil and yielded to desire,
O my God, I did evil and gave in to desires
and my lapse has widened the distance between me and You.
And my mistakes distanced me from You
ولكنbut إذاwhen قارنتI compare عظمthe enormity of خطيئتيmy sin
بعفوكwith Your pardon لمnot تعدلbe equal بمثقالto the weight of ذرةa speck
But when I compare the enormity of my sin
But if I compare the enormity of my sin
with Your pardon, it does not equal a speck's weight.
To Your forgiveness, it does not equal an atom's weight
ولوand even if أنthat حشوthe fullness of الكونthe universe وزراًa burden of sin حملتهI bore it
لكانit would surely be ببحرin the sea of العفوpardon أحقرthe most insignificant نقطةa drop
And even if I bore a burden of sin filling the universe,
And if the contents of the universe were a burden I carried
it would be the most insignificant drop in the sea of pardon.
It would be the smallest drop in the ocean of forgiveness
الهيmy God فتحتYou opened البابthe door للعفوto pardon فانتهتand so have arrived
إليهto it نهاياتthe most extreme of العصاةsinners وآبتand returned repentant
My God, You opened the door to pardon, and so have come
O my God, You opened the door to forgiveness, so
to it the furthest-gone sinners, returning in repentance.
All wrongdoers' paths end there seeking refuge
لقدindeed ضاقhas grown narrow بيaround me منbecause of عظمthe enormity of زلاتيmy lapses الفضاthe vast expanse
وحقتand has become certain إذاif لمnot تعفYou pardon عنيme شقوتيmy misery
Indeed, the vast expanse has closed in on me through the enormity of my lapses;
The vastness of space was too narrow for me
and my misery is certain if You do not pardon me.
Because of the enormity of my sins and misguidance
وعفوكand Your pardon عنيof me ياO عفوPardoner كرامةan honor
ومنand a favor ولاand no استحقاقentitlement ليfor me فيto الكرامةthat honor
And Your pardon of me, O Pardoner, is an honor
And Your forgiveness of me, O Forgiver, is nobility
and a favor; I have no claim to that honor.
Though I have no worthiness for such nobility
لئنif indeed نلتI attain منكfrom You العفوpardon منfrom بعدafter توبةrepentance
فأنتthen You بفضلthrough grace منكfrom You يسرتmade easy توبتيmy repentance
If indeed I attain pardon from You after repentance,
If after repentance I attain Your forgiveness
then You, by Your grace, have made my repentance easy.
It is by Your grace You facilitated my repentance
وهبand suppose أننيthat I وفيتfulfilled ماwhat أنتYou آمرcommand

And suppose I fulfilled what You command,
Suppose I fulfilled what You commanded
according to my ability and the utmost of my strength:
According to my ability and utmost strength
فذلكthen that امكانa capacity بهwith which أنتYou مسعفيare aiding me
وإلاand otherwise فماthen what أمريmy condition وشأنيand my standing وقدرتيand my power
then that is a capacity with which You aid me.
That is a capacity You support me with
Otherwise, what am I—what standing or power have I?
Otherwise, what are my affairs, abilities and powers?
ففيso in كلevery حالstate ياO عفوPardoner عنايةcare
ولطفand kindness بهذاtoward this العبدservant فيin كلevery خلةcircumstance
So in every state, O Pardoner, there is care
So in any case, O Forgiver, it is Your care
and kindness toward this servant in every circumstance.
And kindness to this servant in every situation
