والحب من سره لطف وتذليلُ

Let ardent longing course through his nature;

Let youth in all its freshness have its way

and gentleness and humbling are part of love's mystery.

Love can through gentleness make harshness sway

لعل سكرته في الحب تجذبُهُ

لعل سكرته في الحب تجذبُهُ

إلى وصالك يوماً وهو مذهولُ

إلى وصالك يوماً وهو مذهولُ

Perhaps his intoxication in love will draw him

Draw him with love drunk though he turn away

to union with you one day, while he is bewildered.

To you one day though now he's in a daze

فاصبر عليه وخل الحب ينحله

فاصبر عليه وخل الحب ينحله

جرح بجرح وما في الحب تبديلُ

جرح بجرح وما في الحب تبديلُ

So be patient with him, and let love wear him thin—

Have patience, let love gently heal and bind

wound for wound; in love there is no change.

Wound upon wound, for love is constant, stays
