أقدم نفسي حشوها الخوف والرجا

أقدم نفسي حشوها الخوف والرجا

إليك فقدم يا مقدم قربتي

إليك فقدم يا مقدم قربتي

I offer my soul, filled with fear and hope,

I offer myself, filled with fear and hope

To You; so bring me nearer, O Advancer.

To you, so lead me closer, O Guide

ومن لي بتقديمي ومن بتقدمي

ومن لي بتقديمي ومن بتقدمي

إذا لم تقدم يا مقدم وقفتي

إذا لم تقدم يا مقدم وقفتي

And who can bring me forward, and who can grant me progress,

Who but You leads me in my offering, and in my quest?

If You do not advance my standing, O Advancer?

If You lead me not, o Guide, here halted is my quest

وما نهضتي بالذكر عن حول قوة

وما نهضتي بالذكر عن حول قوة

ولكن بتقديم المقدم نهضتي

ولكن بتقديم المقدم نهضتي

Nor does my rising in remembrance come from my own strength and power;

Not by my will rose I in chanting praise

Rather, I rise through the Advancer’s bringing me forward.

But by the grace of the Guide was I raised

ولولا امتنان للمقدم لم تزل

ولولا امتنان للمقدم لم تزل

نفوس على التأخير عن كل رتبة

نفوس على التأخير عن كل رتبة

And but for gracious favor from the Advancer, there would remain

And were it not for the Guide's blessing

Souls held back from every rank.

Souls would be faltering from rank on rank

وسابقة الحسنى مقام لأنفس

وسابقة الحسنى مقام لأنفس

بتقديم مولاها عليه استقرت

بتقديم مولاها عليه استقرت

And foreordained goodness is a station for souls;

And competing for virtues a station for souls

Brought forward by their Master, they have settled there.

By their Lord's grace on them settled

وما نال من قدمت شيئاً بحوله

وما نال من قدمت شيئاً بحوله

ولكنها زلفى من الأزلية

ولكنها زلفى من الأزلية

And none whom You advanced gained anything by his own power;

None attains a thing by his strength

Rather, it is nearness bestowed from eternity.

But by divine favour drawn nearer

وفي درجات القرب أسرار حكمة

وفي درجات القرب أسرار حكمة

تشير لفعل الاسم في الرتبية

تشير لفعل الاسم في الرتبية

And within the degrees of nearness lie mysteries of wisdom,

In grades of nearness, wisdom's secrets

Pointing to the Name’s working in the ordering of ranks.

Point to the Lord's name in degrees

فما عرجت تلك المعارج وقفة

فما عرجت تلك المعارج وقفة

إذا لم تقدمها بحول وقوة

إذا لم تقدمها بحول وقوة

For no station can ascend those stairways

Up those ascents none climbed a span

Unless You advance it with might and strength.

Save led by the Guide's power and will

فثبتني اللهم في كل طاعة

فثبتني اللهم في كل طاعة

وفي كل احسان على الأقدمية

وفي كل احسان على الأقدمية

So make me steadfast, O God, in every act of obedience,

O God, make me firm in obedience

And in every good deed, in the foremost rank.

And in good, upon the firstness

وقدمني اللهم حيث رضيتني

وقدمني اللهم حيث رضيتني

وحسبي مقاماً ما ارتضيت لخيرتي

وحسبي مقاماً ما ارتضيت لخيرتي

And bring me forward, O God, where You are pleased with me;

And bring me close, O God, where You pleased me

And the station You have chosen for my good is enough for me.

And suffice my station what You deemed best for me

فما أرتضيه يا مقدم ما به

فما أرتضيه يا مقدم ما به

غناء لنفسي بل رضاؤك غنيتي

غناء لنفسي بل رضاؤك غنيتي

For what I choose, O Advancer, has no

What You wish, o Guide, is not what delights my soul

Benefit for my soul; rather, Your pleasure is all I need.

But Your pleasure is mycontentment
