دهتني الدواهي يا مقيت وحالتي

لديك الهي بين علم وقدرة

Calamities have overwhelmed me, O Sustainer, and my condition

Is before You, my God, between Your knowledge and power.

ومالي حول يا مقيت لدفعها

ولا دافع دوني يقوم بنصرتي

And I have no strength, O Sustainer, to repel them,

Nor a defender to shield me and rise to my aid.

رمتني بها قوس القضاء فأثبتت

ورميتك الله أثبت رمية

The bow of decree shot them at me and pinned me down;

And Your shot, O God, is the surest shot.

حنانيك تقضي ما تشاء فحلها

بقدرتك اللهم من حيث حلت

I beg Your mercy! You decree what You will; so undo them

By Your power, O God, from wherever they have settled.

فلي مخرج منها بلطفك رزئها

وإن جزعت نفسي له وتضنت

For through Your kindness I have a way out of their affliction,

Even though my soul was distraught over it and wasted away.

مقدرة سيقت بقدرة ربها

وأمرك ربي فوق تلك المسوقة

Ordained, they were driven forth by their Lord's power;

And Your command, my Lord, is above those driven forth.

وكم صعبت ضراء عضت بها اللها

فحل عليها لطفه فتجلت

And how often hardship grew severe, biting at the soft palates,

Then His kindness descended upon it, and it cleared away.

الهي لي روح وجسم كلاهما

له منك قوت يا مقيت البرية

My God, I have a spirit and a body; both

Have sustenance from You, O Sustainer of creation.

فيسر لروحي قوتها خير حكمة

ويسر لجسمي قوته خير عيشة

So make my spirit's sustenance easy to obtain—the finest wisdom;

And make my body's sustenance easy to obtain—the finest way of life.

فما ذرة إلا وأنت مقيتها

كفايتها كل لوجه ونسبة

For there is not an atom but You are its Sustainer,

Meeting each one's needs, in its own way and measure.
