باسمك سيدي تجلى الكروب

وذكرك تطمئن به القلوب

By Your name, my Master, afflictions are dispelled.

And through remembrance of You, hearts find peace.

بحمدك سبحت روحي ونفسي

وقلبي فيك منكسر قطيب

In praise of You, my spirit and my soul glorified You.

And my heart is broken and downcast for You.

بثثت إليك أحزاني وكربي

وحالي عنك ربي لا تغيب

I poured out to You my sorrows and my distress.

And my condition, my Lord, is not hidden from You.

برحمتك استغثت ولي يقين

بأن من استغاثك لا يخيب

Through Your mercy I sought help, and I am certain

that whoever seeks Your help will not be disappointed.

بلطفك سيدي فرج وبشرى

وإن عقدت شدائدها الخطوب

Through Your kindness, my Master, come relief and glad tidings,

even if calamities knot their hardships.

بمنظرك العلي صفات نفسي

وما جرت علي به الذنوب

In Your exalted sight are my soul's qualities,

and what sins have brought upon me.

بسوء الاختيار عصيت ربي

وتلك قضية منها أتوب

Through poor choice I disobeyed my Lord,

and that is a matter of which I repent.

بصرت بزلتي سراً وجهراً

وسرك ليس تهتكه العيوب

You saw my lapse, in secret and openly,

and Your mystery is not laid bare by flaws.

بعيد من عبيدك كل خير

ولكن أنت بالحسنى قريب

All goodness is far from Your servants,

but You are near with goodness.

برأفتك استجرت من الخطايا

فكل مكاسبي اثم وحوب

In Your compassion I sought refuge from sins,

for all my gains are sin and guilt.

برئت إليك مما لست ترضى

وأنت على براءتي الرقيب

I disavowed before You what You do not approve,

and You watch over my disavowal.

بأوبة مخلص لم يبق شيء

سواك على الوجود له حبيب

With the repentance of one sincere, nothing remains

beloved to him in all existence but You.

بعثت إليك من سري رجاء

وأنت عليم ما تخفى الغيوب

From my inmost self I sent You a plea of hope,

and You know what the unseen conceals.

بصير بي وما أخفي وأبدي

وما يأتي به الزمن العصيب

You see me, and what I conceal and reveal,

and what troubled times bring.

بما نجيبت نوحاً حين نادى

وأنت لكل من نادى مجيب

By that with which You saved Noah when he called,

and You answer everyone who calls;

بما نجيت يؤنس حين نادى

وسبح فانجلت عنه الكروب

by that with which You saved Jonah when he called,

and glorified You, so his afflictions were dispelled;

بما نجيت أيوب المنادي

ونعم العبد أواب منيب

by that with which You saved Job, who called upon You,

and an excellent servant he was, ever returning and repentant;

بديع الكائنات الطف بعبد

له من كل سيئة نصيب

O Originator of all beings, be gentle with a servant

who has a share in every evil deed.

برحمتك التي وسعت أصبني

فإنك من تشاء بها تصيب

Touch me with Your mercy, which reaches far,

for with it You touch whomever You will.

بلياتي أحاطت بي ومالي

عليها سيدي صبر رحيب

My afflictions have surrounded me, and I have no

ample patience to bear them, my Master.

بنصرك استعد لكل هول

بحولك كل هول لا ينوب

With Your aid I prepare for every terror;

through Your might, no terror befalls me.

بحولك رب لي نصر عزيز

بحولك رب لي فتح قريب

Through Your might, Lord, a mighty victory is mine;

through Your might, Lord, a near victory is mine.

بدالي من جلالك قهر خصمي

فاسهمهم إلي لهم تصيب

From Your majesty, the subduing of my foe became apparent to me.

So their arrows aimed at me strike them.

بغوا بي السوء فانجدلوا وخابوا

كذلك كل جبار يخيب

They sought harm for me, then fell and failed.

Thus every tyrant fails.

بعزتك اعتصمت فلا أبالي

وإن نصبت مكائدها الخطوب

I took refuge in Your might, so I am untroubled,

even if calamities lay their snares.

بعز اللّه سلطاني عليهم

وعدل اللّه سلطان مهيب

Through God's might, I have power over them,

and God's justice is an awe-inspiring authority.

بقدرتك استجرت من الأعادي

فأنت القاهر الحكم الحسيب

I sought refuge in Your power from enemies,

for You are the Subduer, the Judge, the Reckoner.

بنور محمد نور يقيني

وصل عليه ما نارت قلوب

With Muhammad's light, illumine my certainty,

and send blessings upon him as long as hearts shine.
