Sol 6.1

  1. بأسمائك الحسنى دعوتك موقنا

    بانجازك الوعد الذي قلت فافعلا

    By Your most beautiful Names I called upon You, certain

    that You would fulfill the promise You spoke—so fulfill it.

  2. دعوت وما قدمت لي من ذريعة

    ولكن بحسن الظن جئت مؤملا

    I called, though I had offered no means of approach on my own behalf,

    but I came trusting in You, full of hope.

  3. ومن ذا الذي ناجاك يا رب مخلصاً

    فما باء بالحظ الوفي معجلا

    And who has communed with You, O Lord, sincerely,

    yet not returned at once with a full share?

  4. وأي ملح بالأسامي رددته

    وقد عاش في اذكارها متبتلا

    And what petitioner, persistent in invoking the Names, have You turned away,

    when he has lived wholly devoted to their remembrance?

  5. وحقك ليس الحجب إلا نفوسنا

    وأوصافها تستلزم المنع والقلى

    And by Your truth, the veils are nothing but our own selves,

    and their qualities entail withholding and aversion.

  6. فما بخل المسؤول جل ثناؤه

    ولكن أصل المنع منا تأصلا

    For the One petitioned is not miserly—exalted is His praise—

    but the root of withholding lies rooted in us.

  7. أزل طبع نفسي واكفني شهواتها

    وكن لي بأسرار الأسامي مكملا

    Remove my soul's ingrained nature and shield me from its desires,

    and perfect me through the mysteries of the Names.

  8. ونج وتب واغفر خطيئة ندم

    مقر وجد والطف به وتقبلا

    And save him, accept repentance, and forgive the sin of a penitent,

    who confesses; be generous, be gentle with him, and accept him.

  9. ويسر لي اللهم نيل مآربي

    بأسرارهم واحلل بها عقدة البلا

    And make it easy for me, O God, to attain my aims,

    through their mysteries, and through them untie the knot of affliction.

  10. الهي ملكني تصاريف فعلها

    وأسرار تأثيراتها أملك العلى

    My God, give me command of the varied modes of their action,

    and the mysteries of their effects, that I may attain the heights.

  11. ولا يك حظاً عاجلاً لي فضلها

    ولكن حظاً عاجلاً ومؤجلا

    And let their bounty be no mere immediate portion for me,

    but a portion both immediate and deferred.

  12. وصل الهي كل حين على الذي

    له مدح التنزيل منك وبجلا

    And send blessings, my God, at every moment, upon the one

    who receives praise in the Revelation from You, and is honored:

  13. محمد الهادي الأمين وآله

    وأصحابه والتابعين ومن تلا

    Muhammad, the Guide, the Trustworthy, and his family,

    and his companions, the followers, and those who came after—

  14. صلاة تحط الوزر عني بفضلها

    وتنجح سؤلي مكثراً ومقللا

    a blessing through whose grace You lift sin's burden from me,

    and fulfill my plea, whether I ask much or little,

  15. وترحم تضراعي وطول تبتلى

    بأسمائك الحسنى لديك وتقبلا

    and show mercy to my entreaty and my prolonged devotion

    with Your most beautiful Names before You; and accept it.

  16. ومذ مد قولي من قلامس فيضه

    خضماً من البحر المحيط تسلسلا

    And since my verse swelled from the vast seas of His outpouring,

    a mighty sea streaming from the encircling ocean,

  17. وكان بمكنون العجائب سلما

    به يرتقي أهل السلوك إلى العلى

    and was, through hidden wonders, a ladder

    by which the spiritual wayfarers ascend to the heights,

  18. تضمن تأريخاً لحسن كماله

    ثلاثة أسماء تحرر جملا

    it contained a chronogram for its beautiful completion:

    three Names, reckoned by their letter-values:

  19. غني علي مع لطيف وعدّه

    مليك ووهاب فخذه مفصلا

    Ghanī, ʿAlī, with Laṭīf; and its count is

    Malīk and Wahhāb—so take it in detail.
