At Your door, O Bestower, I am destitute and empty-handed,

And left without provisions, exhausted in affliction’s grip.

At Your door, O Bestower, I have made my longing sincere,

And brought my hopes to water, and lodged my desire.

My suffering is that of the exhausted, and my condition

Is known to You; so relieve my poverty and quench my thirst.

    تواصلها تترى وخير وسيلتي

    Your gifts, O God, are bestowed without contrivance;

You send them one after another, and they are my best means of approach.

And Your giving, O Bestower, is not prompted by circumstance,

Nor by motives, nor by recompense.

And You are the truly Bountiful; no giving whatsoever

Comes from creatures except from You, O Lord of bounty.

And how can giving come from one whom You own,

When he has not an atom’s share in ownership?

Nor is giving rightly attributed to one who does not own,

Nor is it rightly attributed on grounds of causation.

For giving, in truth, belongs only to a Giver

Self-sufficient, abundantly wealthy, owning every created being.

My God, grant me, among Your gifts, freedom from need

Of creation, for myself and for those who encounter me.

My God, grant me mercy from Your presence,

For all freedom from need lies in mercy from Your presence.
