ويا رب يا رب اغتفر ما تجشّمَتْ

عبوديتي إذ لا تعاف المساويا

عبوديتي إذ لا تعاف المساويا

And O Lord, O Lord, forgive what has been undertaken

O Lord, O Lord, forgive what my servitude has burdened me with

by my servanthood, for it does not shun misdeeds.

As Your equal cannot withstand servitude

وخذ بيدي يا رب لا يربني

وخذ بيدي يا رب لا يربني

هواي فأردى في المهالك هاويا

هواي فأردى في المهالك هاويا

And take me by the hand, O Lord; let me not be ruled

And take my hand, O Lord, do not let my passion misguide me

by my desire and perish, falling headlong into deadly perils.

And make me fall into the abyss, headlong

ويا رب إن جاوزت طوري وغرني

ويا رب إن جاوزت طوري وغرني

بك الجهل مفتوناً بما لست راضيا

بك الجهل مفتوناً بما لست راضيا

And O Lord, if I have overstepped my bounds and been deceived

And O Lord, if I have transgressed my limits and passion has deceived me

by ignorance of You, beguiled by what does not please You,

In ignorance of what does not please You

فما أسلمت وجهاً ولا أخلصت دعا

فما أسلمت وجهاً ولا أخلصت دعا

عبوديتي إلا لوجهك صافيا

عبوديتي إلا لوجهك صافيا

yet no face has been surrendered, nor prayer made sincere,

Then I have not surrendered my face nor prayed sincerely

by my servanthood, save purely for Your countenance.

Except to serve You purely

ولا عرفت ربا إذا أخبتت له

ولا عرفت ربا إذا أخبتت له

سواك ونادته أجاب المناديا

سواك ونادته أجاب المناديا

Nor has it known a lord to whom it turns in humility,

And I have not known any lord when I confided to him

other than You, who answers the caller when invoked.

Except You, and called him, the caller responded

وتلك خلال العبد يبطر ناعماً

وتلك خلال العبد يبطر ناعماً

ويجزع أما مسه الشر عافيا

ويجزع أما مسه الشر عافيا

And such are the servant's traits: he grows insolent in comfort,

Such are the traits of a servant who is gently disciplined

and panics when harm touches him, begging for aid.

And laments when touched by harm while healthy

أقم لي كمالي بالخضوع لعزة ال

أقم لي كمالي بالخضوع لعزة ال

ربوبية العظمى على نقص حاليا

ربوبية العظمى على نقص حاليا

Bring me to perfection through submission to the majesty of the

Perfect my completeness through submitting to the greatness

supreme Lordship, despite my deficient state.

Of the highest Lordship over my inadequate state

فكوني عبداً فيك ذلي خالص

فكوني عبداً فيك ذلي خالص

وسائر أطواري مقام فخاريا

وسائر أطواري مقام فخاريا

For my being a servant, with my abasement wholly for You,

Make me a servant to You alone sincerely

is, through all my states, the station of my pride.

And make all my states a prideful position

وكوني عبداً قاهراً بك شهوتي

وكوني عبداً قاهراً بك شهوتي

خلاصي واخلاصي وتحرير ذاتيا

خلاصي واخلاصي وتحرير ذاتيا

And my being a servant, subduing my desire through You,

And make me a servant who overcomes his desires through You

is my deliverance, my pure devotion, and my self's liberation.

My salvation, sincerity, and freeing of my being

بحولك ملكني تدابير عالمي

بحولك ملكني تدابير عالمي

ولا تلق تدبيري لسوء اختياريا

ولا تلق تدبيري لسوء اختياريا

By Your power, grant me command of my world's affairs,

With Your power, make me own the management of my worldly affairs

and do not leave my affairs to my poor choices.

And do not blame my management for my poor choices

على أنه لا حول عندي لذرة

على أنه لا حول عندي لذرة

لك الحول تقضي ما علي وما ليا

لك الحول تقضي ما علي وما ليا

Though I have no power over even a mote,

For I do not have an iota of power

Yours is the power; You decree what is against me and what is for me.

You have the power to decree what is for me and what is against me
