ويا مؤمن امنحني الأمان وأمنك ال

ويا مؤمن امنحني الأمان وأمنك ال

حصين فما في النقص أمن لخيفتي

حصين فما في النقص أمن لخيفتي

And, O Giver of Security, grant me safety and Your protection—

O believer, grant me safety and your impenetrable refuge

impregnable; for in imperfection my fear finds no safety.

For without it, my fear has no security

وأمنك للمخلوق لا خوف عنده

وأمنك للمخلوق لا خوف عنده

لسوء بذي الدنيا وبالأخروية

لسوء بذي الدنيا وبالأخروية

And Your protection leaves the creature without fear

Your safety for the creature, he has no fear

of harm in this world and in the hereafter.

Of the evils of this world or the next

وأمنك حصن ما نبع لا يؤوده

وأمنك حصن ما نبع لا يؤوده

عداء الرزايا واقتحام البلية

عداء الرزايا واقتحام البلية

And Your protection is a fortress—[unclear: 'what sprang forth']—unburdened by

Your safety is an unconquerable fortress

the hostility of calamities and the onslaught of affliction.

Unassailable by the enemy of sins and calamities

وأمنك لي يا مؤمن الخوف جنة

وأمنك لي يا مؤمن الخوف جنة

فما لي وشيطاني ونفسي الغوية

فما لي وشيطاني ونفسي الغوية

And Your protection is my shield, O You who grant safety from fear;

Your safety is a garden for me, O believer

so what have I to do with my devil and my wayward soul?

So what is left for me and my deceitful self and devil?

وأمنك لي من حيث أنك ذاكري

وأمنك لي من حيث أنك ذاكري

وذكرى لك اللهم بالتبعية

وذكرى لك اللهم بالتبعية

And Your protection is mine because You remember me,

Your safety is there for me since you remember me

and my remembrance of You, O God, follows from that.

And my remembrance of You, O God, follows from it

وأمنك لي من جانب الخوف كالرجا

وأمنك لي من جانب الخوف كالرجا

أماني إذا ألهمتنيه وعصمتي

أماني إذا ألهمتنيه وعصمتي

And Your protection of me through fear, as through hope,

Your safety is like hope that inspires me

is my safety and my safeguard when You inspire it in me.

When You inspire me with it and protect me

وأمنك لي من حيث خلق هدايتي

وأمنك لي من حيث خلق هدايتي

لأسباب ما فيه نجاتي وهلكتي

لأسباب ما فيه نجاتي وهلكتي

And Your protection for me lies in Your creating my guidance

Your safety lies in Your guiding my creation

to what brings about my salvation and my ruin.

To the causes of my salvation or perdition

وأمنك لي من خوف مكرك معقل

وأمنك لي من خوف مكرك معقل

يقيني ومن حيث التوكل منعتي

يقيني ومن حيث التوكل منعتي

And Your protection for me, through fear of Your stratagem, is a stronghold

Your safety protects me from the cunning of Your decree

that guards me; and through reliance on You, it is my defense.

My certainty, and from reliance that has abandoned me

وهبت إلى الايمان وهو ذريعتي

وهبت إلى الايمان وهو ذريعتي

فيا من به منه إليه ذريعتي

فيا من به منه إليه ذريعتي

You bestowed faith upon me, and it is my means of approach;

You granted me faith, which is my means

so, O You through whom, from whom, and to whom is my means of approach:

To You, through You, for You is my means

أمنت بك اللهمَ كل مخوفة

أمنت بك اللهمَ كل مخوفة

باحسان ظني لا باحسان سيرتي

باحسان ظني لا باحسان سيرتي

through You, O God, I am safe from every terror,

O God, I sought safety from all fears

through thinking well of You, not through the goodness of my conduct.

Not for my good conduct, but for my good opinion of You

الهي منك الأمن والخوف كائن

الهي منك الأمن والخوف كائن

وكل مجاز راجع للحقيقة

وكل مجاز راجع للحقيقة

My God, safety and fear come into being from You,

O God, safety and fear come from You

and every metaphor returns to reality.

And everything metaphorical refers back to the real
