ويا خالق الخلق المقدر كونهم

ويا خالق الخلق المقدر كونهم

نظاماً قويماً كل ذات لصورة

نظاماً قويماً كل ذات لصورة

And O Creator of creation, who ordained their existence

O Creator of creation, You who destined them

in sound order, each being assigned a form.

To be an upright system, each essence with a form

الهي ابتدعت الممكنات سوية

الهي ابتدعت الممكنات سوية

كما شئت من جنس وطبع وهيأة

كما شئت من جنس وطبع وهيأة

My God, You originated contingent beings, well-formed,

My God, You originated the possibilities equally

as You willed, in kind, nature, and shape.

As You willed, of race and nature and constitution

واتقنتها لم تحك صنعة متقن

واتقنتها لم تحك صنعة متقن

ولم تسعتن فيها بظهرة قوة

ولم تسعتن فيها بظهرة قوة

And You perfected them, copying no skilled craftsman's work,

And perfected them, not rough of skillful making

nor sought any power's support in making them.

Nor strove in them with appearance of strength

أردت فكانت فاستقرت بدائعاً

أردت فكانت فاستقرت بدائعاً

بحكم اختيار لا بصنع وعلة

بحكم اختيار لا بصنع وعلة

You willed, and they came to be, then stood firm as marvels,

You willed and they were, and settled as wonders

by the decree of choice, not through craft or cause.

By decree of choice, not by making and cause

مظاهر ذات اللّه مظهر فعله

مظاهر ذات اللّه مظهر فعله

مظاهر فعل اللّه مظهر حكمة

مظاهر فعل اللّه مظهر حكمة

The manifestations of God's Essence reveal His action;

Manifestations of God's essence, manifestation of His act

the manifestations of God's action reveal wisdom.

تجلت بتخصيص الارادة فانجلى

تجلت بتخصيص الارادة فانجلى

عليها جمال اللّه لما تجلت

عليها جمال اللّه لما تجلت

It shone forth through the will's determination, and there shone

Revealed by particularizing the will, so His beauty shone clear

upon it God's beauty when it shone forth.

Upon them when He was manifest

وفي حكمة التخصيص سر مخصص

وفي حكمة التخصيص سر مخصص

لذاتك لا يقواه إدراك فطرة

لذاتك لا يقواه إدراك فطرة

And in the wisdom of that determination lies a secret reserved

And in the wisdom of particularizing is a secret specifying

for Your Essence, which innate understanding cannot grasp.

To Your essence, not comprehended by innate perception

لقد كنت كنزاً خافياً فخلقتهم

لقد كنت كنزاً خافياً فخلقتهم

لعرفانك اللهم من غير شبهة

لعرفانك اللهم من غير شبهة

You were indeed a hidden treasure, so You created them

You were indeed a hidden treasure, so You created them

that they might know You, O God, without any doubt.

To know You, O God, without doubt

نصبت لهم منهم عليك أدلة

نصبت لهم منهم عليك أدلة

فما حيلة الأبصار عند الأدلة

فما حيلة الأبصار عند الأدلة

You set up for them, from themselves, proofs pointing to You;

You set for them, from themselves, signs to You

so what recourse have the eyes before the proofs?

So what can sights do before the signs?

فهب لي في الابداع فكرة ناظر

فهب لي في الابداع فكرة ناظر

ترقَّى يقيني فيك أرفع رتبة

ترقَّى يقيني فيك أرفع رتبة

So grant me a beholder's reflection on creation,

Grant me, in origination, an idea of one who sees

that my certainty in You may rise to the loftiest rank.

That my certainty in You ascend to highest rank

ويا خالقي نور جناني وقالبي

ويا خالقي نور جناني وقالبي

ويا خالقي أوجد رغائب طلبتي

ويا خالقي أوجد رغائب طلبتي

And O my Creator, illumine my heart and my bodily frame;

O my Creator, light of my soul and my molder

and O my Creator, make real the desires of my plea.

O my Creator, fulfill the desires I sought
