1. يقول أُناسٌ إشرب الخمرَ إنها

    إذا القومُ نالوها أصابوا الغنائما

    Some people say, “Drink wine, for

    when people partake of it, they gain spoils.”

  2. فقُلتُ لهم جَهلاً كَذبتم أَلم ترَوا

    أَخاها سفيهاً بعد ما كان حالماً

    So I said to them, “In ignorance you lie! Have you not seen

    its companion turn foolish after he had been forbearing?

  3. وأضحى وأمسى مُستَخَفّاً مُهَيَّماً

    وحسبُك عاراً أن ترى المرءَ هائماً

    And morning and evening he is scorned and distraught.

    And it is shame enough for you to see a man wandering bewildered.”
