رأيتُ الخمرَ صالحةً وفيها

مناقبُ تُهلِكُ الرُجلَ الحليما

I saw the wine wholesome, though in it

Are attributes that destroy the wise man.

فلا واللهِ أشربُها حياتي

ولا أسقي بها أبداً نديما

No, by Allah, I'll not drink it in my life,

Nor with it entertain a boon companion.
