إنif يكنbe وَلَّىhas departed الأميرُthe emir فقَدthen indeed
إن يكن وَلَّى الأميرُ فقَد
طابَproved good منهfrom him النّجلُthe son والأثرُand the legacy
طابَ منه النّجلُ والأثرُ
If the emir has gone away, then indeed
If the emir has departed, then indeed
his progeny and legacy have proved good.

فيكُمُamong you مُستَيقِظٌalert فَهِمٌdiscerning
فيكُمُ مُستَيقِظٌ فَهِمٌ
قُلقُلانٌnimble حَيّةٌa serpent ذَكَرُmale
قُلقُلانٌ حَيّةٌ ذَكَرُ
Among you is one vigilant and discerning,

أحمَدُI praise اللهGod إِليكَto you فماfor no
أحمَدُ الله إِليكَ فما
وُصلَةٌa bond إِلاَّexcept سَتَنبتِرُwill be severed
وُصلَةٌ إِلاَّ سَتَنبتِرُ
