تمنيتُ أن ألقاهُما وتمنّتا

تمنيتُ أن ألقاهُما وتمنّتا

فلما التقَينا استَحيَتا من مُناهُما

I longed to meet the two of them, and they longed too;

I wished to meet them both, and they both wished the same.

then, when we met, they grew shy of what they had wished for.

بكت هذه وانهلّ ادمعُ هذه

بكت هذه وانهلّ ادمعُ هذه

وفاضت دموعي في عِراض بُكاهُما

وفاضت دموعي في عِراض بُكاهُما

One wept, and the other’s tears came streaming down;

This one wept, and that one's tears streamed down.

and my tears overflowed amid the weeping of them both.

And my tears overflowed alongside the weeping of them both.
