1. إنّي إذا ما ذكرتُ ربّ

    يهتزُّ شوقي إلى لقاهُ

    Indeed, whenever I remember the Lord,

    My longing to meet him stirs.

  2. طلبت حياتي وضاءَ قلبي

    بذِكرِ ربّي جلّ ثناهُ

    I sought my life, and my heart shone,

    Through remembrance of my Lord—exalted be his praise.

  3. ما ذاقَ طعم الغرام إلّا

    من عرفَ الوصلَ أو دراهُ

    None has tasted the savor of ardent love except

    One who has known union or understood it.

  4. يا قوزَ قوم باللَه فزوا

    فلم يروا في الورى سواه

    [Wording unclear:] O dune of a people—by God, spring up!

    And so they saw none but him among creation.

  5. قرّبهُم منهُ فاجتباهم

    فنزّهوا الفِكر في عُلاهُ

    He drew them near to himself and chose them,

    So they let thought roam in his sublimity.

  6. ليسَ لهم للسوى التفاتٌ

    كيفَ وقد شاهدوا سناهُ

    They turn their attention to nothing else—

    How could they, having witnessed his radiance?

  7. أزالَ حُجبَ الغِطاء عنهُم

    فاستنشقوا نفحةَ هواهُ

    He removed the veils of concealment from them,

    So they breathed in a waft of his love.

  8. تجلّى بالنور والبهاء

    لهُم فقالوا يا هو يا هو

    He revealed himself in light and splendor

    To them, and they cried, “O He! O He!”

  9. فقال إنّي لكُم محبٌّ

    ربٌّ كريمٌ نعمَ الإلهُ

    Then he said: Indeed, I love you,

    A generous Lord—how excellent a God!

  10. ألملكُ ملكي والأمرُ أمري

    أنتُم عيدي والجاهُ جاهُ

    Dominion is my dominion, and command is my command.

    You are my festival, and honor is honor.

  11. ألجودُ جودي والفضل فضلي

    أنا الذي يرتَجى عطاهُ

    Generosity is my generosity, and bounty is my bounty.

    I am the one whose gift is hoped for.

  12. أقبلُ من تابَ من عبادي

    ولا أُبالي بما جناهُ

    I accept whoever among my servants repents,

    And I care not what he has committed.

  13. ألحبُّ حبي والقرب قربي

    والعزُّ عزي فادخل حماهُ

    Love is my love, and nearness is my nearness,

    And might is my might; so enter his sanctuary.

  14. قلبكَ متع بكأس شربي

    طرفكَ نزه بما تراهُ

    Delight your heart with the cup of my drink;

    Refresh your gaze with what you see.

  15. وانظر به نظرَة اعتبار

    في أرضِ مولاكَ أو سماهُ

    And look with it, with a reflective gaze,

    Upon your Lord’s earth or his sky.
