Raqash threatened me in ignorance; would that I

and every Raqashi on earth were bound together by one rope!

So up Hudayn’s arse, and the arse of the mother who cast him forth!

What a wretched lodging for a guest in a time of dearth!

And if I do not leave Raqash and their host

more abject beneath humiliation’s tread than a sandal,

then may my hands be paralyzed, and may I follow a misguided

path, and never be granted success in goodness or virtue.

    Huge-testicled, scant-bearded, a source of obscenity,

miserly with provisions in abundance and scarcity.

When safe from time’s afflictions, they couple

as dogs couple in darkness and fear.

And if time bites them with a disastrous turn of events,

then they are weaker in timber than markh and tamarisk.

Lions of Shara in the assembly’s midst, but foxes

when war hems them in, its cauldrons boiling.
