Ah, many a day I had in Bust, and many a night!

But none like my bygone days in Tustar.

I dwelt there, serving the choicest aged wine

To a noble-faced man among the chieftains of Yashkur.

We would race to drink wine until we loathed it,

And it left us like a dust-smeared man struck down.

That was an age whose bliss has passed away.

So I grew tractable, given lasting composure instead.

Then my good sense returned, and I grew weary of

Wine; and formerly I had been like a bewildered man.

And at every hour of truth, I discerned its straight course.

So I do not fall short of it, even if roused.

I shall race in piety and in knowledge, after

I raced toward the bidding of the notorious wayward one.

Through God are my power, my resourcefulness, and my strength.

And from Him come my many good deeds and my wrongdoing.
