ستعلمyou will learn أنthat رأيكyour judgment رأيjudgment سوءٍbadness
ستعلم أن رأيك رأي سوءٍ
إذاwhen ظِلُّthe shade الأمارةthe authority عنكfrom you زالاhas vanished
إذا ظِلُّ الأمارة عنك زالا
You will learn that your judgment was a wicked one,
You will learn that your judgment is a bad judgment,
when authority’s shade has withdrawn from you.
When the shade of authority has vanished from you,
وراحَand departed بنوsons of أبيكyour father ولستَand you are not فيهمamong them
وراحَ بنو أبيك ولستَ فيهم
بذيpossessed of ذكرٍrenown يزيدهمadds to them جَمالاsplendor
بذي ذكرٍ يزيدهم جَمالا
And your father’s sons—your own kin—depart, while you are not among them
And your father's sons depart, while you are not among them
as a man of renown whose name adds to their glory.
One whose renown adds to their splendor.
هناكthen تذكَّرُyou remember الأسلافَthe forebears منهمof them
هناك تذكَّرُ الأسلافَ منهم
إذاwhen الليلُthe night القصيرُshort عليكupon you حالاhas come
إذا الليلُ القصيرُ عليك حالا
There you will remember their forebears
Then you will remember their forebears,
when the brief night comes upon you.
When the short night comes upon you.
