وكُلّand every رقاشيٍّRaqāshī علىon الأرضthe earth فيin الحبلِthe rope
Raqāsh threatened me in ignorance; would that I
In ignorance, Raqash threatened me - would that
and every Raqāshī on earth were bound by one rope!
I and all the Raqashes on earth were tied with rope.

So, up Ḥuḍayn’s arse, and the arse of the mother who cast him forth!
They were raised tenderly by a loving mother,
What a wretched lodging for a guest in a time of drought!
Yet how evil is the guest's refuge in this vile age!
وإنand if أناI لمdo not أتركleave رقاشRaqāsh وجمعهمand their host
أذلَّmore abased علىbeneath وطءthe tread of الهوانhumiliation منthan النعلthe sandal
And if I do not leave Raqāsh and their host
Had I not left Raqash and gathered them,
more abject beneath humiliation’s tread than a sandal,
I would be more disgraced than a downtrodden sandal.
فشَلَّتthen may they be palsied يدايmy two hands واتبعتand may I follow سوىother than الهدىright guidance
سبيلاًa path ولاnor وفّقتmay I be granted success للخيرin goodness والفضلِand virtue
then may my hands be palsied, and may I follow, instead of guidance,
My hands failed me, and I pursued a path
another path, and never be granted success in goodness or virtue!
Other than guidance, without success or merit.

Huge of testicle, scant of beard, a mine of obscenity,
The ignoble, bearded gluttons, source of malice -
misers with provisions in plenty and in want.
Profligates with provisions in fertility and eternity.
إذاwhen أمنواthey are safe from ضرّاءَthe afflictions of دهرٍtime تعاظلواthey mate with one another
عظالَthe mating of الكلابِdogs فيin الدجنَّةِdarkness والوجلِand fear
When safe from time’s afflictions, they mate with one another,
When they feel secure from the harms of fate, they rebel -
as dogs mate in darkness and fear.
Like vicious dogs in shelters and thickets.

But if time bites them with a stroke of misfortune,
And if fate bites them with the fang of disaster,
then their timber is weaker than markh and tamarisk.
They become withered sticks of tamarisk and saltwort.

Lions of Sharā amid the assembly—foxes
Black-fated jackals amid the burial grounds -
when war closes in, its cauldrons boiling.
When war's caldron boils, they gather.
