صحا قلبي واقصر بعد غيٍّ

صحا قلبي واقصر بعد غيٍّ

طويل كان فيه من الغواني

طويل كان فيه من الغواني

My heart grew sober and desisted after waywardness,

My heart awoke and shortened the distance

Long endured because of beautiful women,

After a long journey filled with passion

بأن قصدَ السبيل فباع جهلاً

بأن قصدَ السبيل فباع جهلاً

برُشدٍ وارتجى عُقبى الزمانِ

برُشدٍ وارتجى عُقبى الزمانِ

By taking the right path and trading folly

When it set its direction and sold ignorance

For sound judgment, and hoping for a good end to his days.

For guidance and hoped for good from time

وخاف الموت واعتصم ابن حجرٍ

وخاف الموت واعتصم ابن حجرٍ

من الحبِّ المُبرّح بالجنانِ

من الحبِّ المُبرّح بالجنانِ

And Ibn Hujr feared death and shielded himself

And the son of Hajar feared death

From love that grievously torments the heart.

From unrestrained love in the gardens

وقِدماً كانَ معترماً جموحاً

وقِدماً كانَ معترماً جموحاً

إلى لذّاته سلِسَ العنانِ

إلى لذّاته سلِسَ العنانِ

And formerly he had been impetuous and headstrong,

His feet once unruly and rebellious

Toward his pleasures, yielding to the rein.

Towards his pleasures, loose reins

واقلع بعد حبوتهِ وأضحى

واقلع بعد حبوتهِ وأضحى

طويلَ الليل يهرِف بالقُرانِ

طويلَ الليل يهرِف بالقُرانِ

And he desisted after sitting with his knees drawn up, and now spends

But he departed after his lusts and spent

The long night declaiming the Qur’an,

Long nights reciting the Quran

ويدعو اللَه مُجتهداً لكيما

ويدعو اللَه مُجتهداً لكيما

ينالَ الفوزَ من غُرف الجنان

ينالَ الفوزَ من غُرف الجنان

And calling upon God, striving earnestly, so that

And praying to God with great effort

He may win a place among the chambers of Paradise.

To attain success from the rooms of Paradise
