أَيُّwhich of خَطيئاتِيَmy sins أَبكيI weep دَماblood
وَهيَand they are كَثيرٌmany كَنُجومِlike the stars of السَماthe sky
For which of my sins shall I weep blood?
For which of my sins should I weep blood?
They are many, like the stars of heaven.
And they are many, like the stars of the sky.
قَدindeed طَمَسَتthey have blotted out عَقليmy reason فَماso not أَهتَديI find guidance
وَأَورَثَتand have brought عَينَthe eye of فُؤاديmy heart العَمىblindness
They have clouded my reason, so I cannot find my way,
They have blotted out my reason, so I find no guidance,
And have left the eye of my heart blind.
and have brought blindness to the eye of my heart.
إِنّاindeed we إِلىto اللَهِGod لَقَدindeed حَلَّhas befallen بيupon me
خَطبٌa calamity غَداbecame صُبحيmy morning بِهِthrough it مُظلِماdark
Indeed, we belong to God—a calamity has befallen me
Surely we are bound for God; there has indeed befallen me
Through which my morning has turned dark.
a calamity through which my morning has turned dark.
